A happy afternoon spent with members of the Essex Branch of the Historical Association in Chelmsford last weekend.
I had such a warm welcome from the Committee. They treated me to lunch and then I spoke about the legacy of the Huguenots to a really attentive audience, all of whom were genuinely interested in all aspects of history and some of whom, like me, with Huguenot ancestry. There was an excellent turnout despite the chilly weather and lively discussion in the Q and A session after my talk.
From my point of view, it was everything you want from such an event. An engaged, knowledgeable audience, thoughtful questions and enthusiasm for my book ‘The King’s Command’ based on the experience of my own family’s flight from France at the end of the 17th century. Thank you for having me.
